1. 개요
영화 스페이스 잼의 주제곡. 어떤 음악이든지 간에 짬뽕하면 힙합이 되는 마성의 BGM이다. 빌보드 핫 100에서 37위, 빌보드 R&B 차트에서 49위를 기록했다.2. 재발견
2005년에 은퇴한 레슬러 마초맨 랜디 새비지를 기리기 위해 미국의 짤방사이트인 YTMND의 한 유저가 위 곡을 바탕으로 Savageslam이라는 리믹스곡을 만들었는데 이게 YTMND내에서 근소한 인기를 얻으면서 여러 패러디들이 생산되고 있었다.그러다가 2009년에 유튜브에서 동인 게임 제작사 Tales of Game’s Studios에서 발매한 게임 <Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden>(바클리 닥치고 잼 외전)의 전투 BGM 리믹스가 인기를 끌면서 게임의 주인공인 찰스 바클리와 함께 본격적인 밈이 되었다.
3. 리믹스의 특징
들어보면 알겠지만 패러디 되는 작품들이 다양하다. 리믹스들이 모두 걸출해서 이 곡이 어떻게 이렇게 바뀌나 신기할 정도.
필수요소로 등극한지 거의 10년이 넘었는데도 스페이스 잼 리믹스의 인기는 식을 줄을 모른다. 이제는 거의 모든 음악마다 리믹스가 붙어있을 정도다. 과장이 아니며 그 많은 리믹스들이 전부 약을 빨고 만든 양작들이라는게 더더욱 무섭다.
이렇게 아무 노래에나 리믹스될 수 있는 이유는 이 노래가 4/4 박자로 되어있고 멜로디에 구애받지 않는 힙합곡이기 때문이다. 일단 4/4 박자로만 되어있으면 음정과 템포( BPM)만 맞춰줘도 무리없이 잘 어울린다. 이 노래와 비슷한 예로 어느 음악에나 어울리는 마법의 짤방이 있다.
보통 Quad City DJs[1] VS 해당 작품의 아티스트, 캐릭터의 이름이 부제로 붙으며, 곡의 제목마다 'Slam'이나 'Jam'이 붙는 것이 특징. 대개 비트만 깔아줘도 괜찮은 리믹스가 나오며, 잠시 비트를 빼서 원작 음악의 클라이맥스를 살릴 때도 있다. 음악뿐이 아니라 화면에는 찰스 바클리[2]를 위시한 NBA 선수들[3] [4], 농구공[5]이 합성되는데 이 퀄리티 역시 약 빨고 합성한 것들이 대부분.
