2. 특징
마돈나의 별명 '물질적인 여자(material girl)'의 기원이 된 곡. 말 그대로 돈 없는 남자는 차버리고 '캐쉬와 신용카드를 아끼지 않는' 남자만을 고른다는 내용. 뮤직 비디오는 신사는 금발을 좋아한다에서 나온 남성들의 이중성을 비판하는 내용의 마릴린 먼로의 Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend 퍼포먼스를 오마주하였다. 사랑보다 물질적인 추구만이 삶에 이득이라는 가사이다. 2015년 Rebel Heart Tour에서는 남자 댄서 8명을 친히 무대 아래로 던져버리는 퍼포먼스를 보여주었다.마돈나는 이 노래가 Like a Virgin과 더불어 반어적인 노래라고 했다. 그러면서 자신은 material girl도, virgin도 아니라는 말을 덧붙였다.

넷플릭스 SF 호러 드라마인 기묘한 이야기 시즌 3 2화의 삽입곡으로 이 노래가 사용된 적이 있다. 엘의 우울한 기분을 풀어주려고 쇼핑을 하러 갈때의 삽입곡으로 사용되었다.SBS 드라마 낭만닥터 김사부에 삽입되었다.
백예린이 보컬로 활동하는 밴드 The Volunteers가 리메이크했다.
리듬 히어로의 10스테이지가 해당 곡을 사용한다. 쇼핑몰에서 사치부리는 느낌의 원곡과 달리 무인도가 배경이라 노래 분위기가 트로피컬하고 템포가 빨라서 해당 노래를 알다가 원곡을 처음 듣고는 생각보다 느낌이 달라 놀라는 사람도 있는 듯.
