1. 개요
러프 트레이드 레코드는 영국의 음반점 체인인 러프 트레이드의 창립자 제프 트래비스가 세운 음반사이다. 러프 트레이드 본점을 열고 2년 후인 1978년에 탄생하였다.1991년 파산했다가 2000년에 창립자인 제프 트래비스와 퍼블릭 이미지 리미티드 멤버였던 자넷 리(Jeannette Lee)가 생추어리 레코즈(Sanctuary Records)의 도움을 받아 다시 설립했으며, 2002년에 BMG가 러프 트레이드를 인수하고, 2007년에 생추어리 레코즈가 지분을 베거스 그룹에 넘기면서 다시 독립 음반사가 되었다. 그 이후로는 제프 트래비스와 자넷 리 둘이서 경영하는 중.
여담으로 러프 트레이드는 영국 독립 음반사들의 음반 배급망인 더 카르텔(The Cartel)을 구축하는데 크게 기여한 바 있다. 더 카르텔은 영국의 소규모 음반사들이 전국으로 음반을 배급할 수 있게 해주는 매우 중요한 배급 네트워크였는데, 이를 통해 팩토리 레코드같은 음반사들이 영국 전역에 음반을 손쉽게 배급할 수 있었다.
